Continued growth in local esports as YouTube Creator, Lachlan Power, enters the industry
Whilst the more traditional sports around both Australasia and the world have found themselves stagnating during the COVID-19 pandemic, esports continues to thrive with online competitions, events and entertainment running around the clock.
Hot off the press this past Sunday was the announcement that Lachlan Power, a Australian YouTube creator boasting over 13M+ subscribers, has committed to the Australasian esports industry following the formation of his new team, Team PWR.
Lachlan has stated that he is committed to building out the personal brands of those on board, whilst also ensuring that they have the opportunity to compete in North America for a spot in the 2020 Fortnite World Cup.
Announcements like these are always a boost to our ecosystem, as more eyes are put on the local industry. We saw a similar scenario early last year with Click establishing Click Esports ahead of their collaboration with Fortnite on The Showdownunder - a big online event which showcased Oceania across the global Fortnite channels.
With brands finding a strong value in esports during these times, the sky's the limit for where the industry could find itself once life returns to its normal landscape.

2020 Global Esports Market Report by NewZoo forecasts an annual global esports audience just shy of half a billion viewers, broken down into 222.9 million active esports viewers and a further 272.2 occasional esports viewers.
With more brands than ever venturing into the esports sponsorship market, NewZoo reports a revenue forecast of $1.1 billion for the esports industry, a 15.7% year-on-year growth. Almost 75% of this growth will come from sponsorships and media rights - Nike alone is rumoured to have spent $100 million on a four-year jersey design and footwear deal with the Chinese League of Legends league, LPL.
